Based on that the second target of the EU Biodiversity Strategy is to Maintain and Restore ecosystems see European Commission Link. Enetjärn Natur took part in an enquiry investigating how much and what kind of ecosystem restoration that are currently done in EU, who is doing and what is initiating it, how many are involved and how could it potentially contribute to economic growth and employment in EU.

The main conclusions was that most of the restoration done is motivated by different kinds of policies and done outside protected areas, but also that the picture of ecological restoration is diverse in EU, e.g when it comes to organisations and sectors involved, property rights, ecosystem types, funding, spatial scales and baseline conditions.
